Joel Preston (b. Feb. 29, 1860), Roanoke County, VA, married Oct. 3, 1879, Mary Angelina Melton (b. Nov. 18, 1859), daughter of Thomas E. and Ditha Jane (Raffety) Melton, They were the parents of Cora Florence (Hagan), Hester Alice, Rose Ann (Troxel), Susan Elizabeth, Charlotte Clementine (McKensie), Lucy Mildred (Vance) and William Thomas. Joel P. was a farmer and blacksmith and resided on a farm in the Mt. Zion area. Joel P. died 1941 and Mary A. died 1940; both are buried at Stubbs Cemetery.
