Due to a delay in the divorce [from Alex], my mother's marriage to my father was delayed. My mother and Alex stayed in contact until he died and I remember him well. He held my mother in high regard all his life and when he needed to be cared for during his illness, my mother visited him regularly to see to his needs. I don't think his second wife could cope with his illness. I saw him in hospital just before he died. He asked to see me and my 1st daughter who had been born the previous September. I respected him and had many good arguments with him when I was younger. That may sound disrespectful but it was more like intellectual arguments than personal ones. I never felt like he resented me. I would have been proud to have him as my father if it were not for the fact that I adored my own father. Both men were good men. Alex was in the Engineer's division in WWII and served in Egypt driving water for troops.

I saw my father deteriorate over a 13 year period and it was not fun. He had Arteriorsclerosis and Senile Dementia and was hospitalized from around 1981 to his death in August 1992. I adored him.

My mother's second husband was my father, Leonard William Hume, born 23rd December 1908 in the town of Ilford, Essex, England. His father was Thomas Hume and his mother was Mary Ann Alecker. He came from the Home/Holme/Hulme/Hume clan of Scotland who were Border Chieftains. I don't know if you have ever heard of Sir Alec Douglas Hulme? He was a British Prime minister. My father was related to him but we don't know for certain which side of the blanket is the relationship. :-)
