Sunday, Dec. 8, 1932, was a red letter day in the history of Greenwood Church
of the Brethren. An all day service was held, with a basket dinner at the noon
hour, followed by the dedication of the beautiful new cobblestone church. Every
available seat was taken with many people standing up. Rev. Oliver H. Austin
preached the morning service. There were hymns of praise and prayer. A male quartet
sang appropriate songs. A brief history of the construction was given by Rev.
A. W. Adkins of Cabool, a former pastor. The church had been constructed without
any debt whatsoever, $10 being the first deposit toward the work. Words of gratitude
were expressed to all who helped in any way-donations of material, money
and work. The financial cost of the building was $1,104.28.
